From 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, SAA will host "Pop My Trunk," a car show and block party, between the Baker Pattillo Student Center and the Chemistry Building.
"If your car has been tagged by a flier, then it's encouraged that you sign up for the event, because SAA believes your car is fly," according to Kia Phinney, Killeen junior and coordinator for the event.
This is the first time SAA has held this kind of event, and they're hoping for a good turnout.
" I decided to do a car show and block party together because it's a unique event and something fun," Phinney said. "It's something different from what SAA has done in the past, and it will bring in a different crowd."
There will be free pizza, Kool-Aid and airbrush tattoos at the event. There will be a special performance by the hip-hop dance group "Krump n' Slow" and a DJ with live music.
" Come on out and get your dance on," Phinney said.
There is a $300 grand prize for the "People's Choice" award, and prizes will be given to the winners of two other categories, including "Most pimped out" and "Best accessory".
Stop by the SAA office on the third floor of the student center and leave your name and number to register. If you have any question call 468-1222.
Every year SAA is given a certain budget per semester. Each member is required to propose an event for the semester, and all events must stay within the given budget.
"It can range anywhere from a coffee shop 'open mic' to stadium concert," Megan Worthy, Whitewright sophomore, said.
Each member is given a date at the beginning of the semester by which they have to present their event. Events are proposed throughout the semester in front of the Program Board..
Events are voted on at the end of the semester and, depending on the budget, certain ones are chosen and placed on next semester's agenda of events.
