Halloween weekend provides many events for students and the members of the community to participate in.

Resident Hall Association is hosting its Fall Festival in the Student Center Plaza on Friday. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m., is completely free and is also open to the community. Each residence hall on campus will have its own booth at the festival. Among the booths are caramel apples, painting pumpkins, and free food. Hot dogs, corn on the cob, black lemonade and punch are some of the food included.

RHA has planned a costume contest for different age categories. Winners of the contest will receive trophies with candy.

Among the costume contest and booths there will also be a fortune teller at a booth, and a pumpkin pie eating contest.

"RHA offers this as a free event that we offer every year," Stephanie Gilbreath, Boerne sophmore and vice president of RHA, said. "All of RHA's events are free and open for everyone to come. We always have free food, music and tons of fun."

For students and members of the community especially looking for a fun, and family oriented way to trick-or-treat Millard's Crossing Historic Village offers a different way on Saturday.

The village is composed of historic homes that have been moved to the site just north of Nacogdoches on Highway 259. . When people approach a home a ghost giving away candy comes out of the house and gives candy while telling the history of the house.

Millard's Crossing charges a $2 admission for adults and children in order to cover the expenses and costs of operation. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m.

A hay ride is also offered at Millard's Crossing, and is included in the admission fee. The country store within the village will be open and selling hot popcorn and drinks.

Director Susie Lower mentioned that this is the third year the event has take place.

"We're trying to teach history in a fun way," Lower said. "And bring it to life in a spooky way."
