The boys are back in town.
Theta Chi, a social fraternity, is back at SFA and wanting to prove they are the one fraternity to be involved in.
The fraternity's motto is "Extend the Helping Hand.
In 2001 the group's national organization took away the local charter because of allegations of hazing. The University didn't take any action in the situation, but the nationals took care of it, is why they got asked to come back. Theta Chi decided to take away the charter before anything else happened. It has been seven years, including a four-year waiting period, and the fraternity is ready to reestablish itself and its traditions like they have for the past 30-plus years here.
"We want the guys to be able to have a good time while representing the fraternity," said Expatiation Coordinator Corey Fischer.
Fischer said in the '70s, '80s and '90s the Epsilon Tau chapter of Theta Chi was one of the top fraternities on campus. They want to be that exact legacy that their alumni left, he said.
Their goal is to have a solid group of five to 15 guys to start it off. Fischer estimated it will take about a year and half to get their charter back.
He said this fraternity is not just social, but it also has expectations (of its members) and has the opportunity to revise the Greek system.
Theta Chi's GPA requirement is 2.7, above the GPA of many other groups. Fischer said they want both chapter leaders and campus leaders in their fraternity.
They also are looking for guys who aren't necessarily into partying but who know some of the Greek system, he said.
"Theta Chi is brotherhood at its best," Fischer said.
They will be having interest meetings next week. For more information contact Corey Fischer at corey@thetachi.org
