Stephen F. Austin welcomed back Theta Chi into its Greek Society.
The original Epsilon Tau chapter of Theta Chi, established in 1961, called SFA home for nearly 40 years until 2001, when the national organization closed down the chapter.
"We don't go where we're not invited." Marcus Scott, Leadership and Education Consultant, said. "SFA invited us to come back to recolonize the chapter here on SFA and we're going to recolonize."
Theta Chi is a socially based fraternity. It focuses on the importance of stressing leadership, academic excellence and community service while retaining a risk-management policy, which encompasses a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol and hazing.
"What makes unique from other fraternities is that we don't fit the stereotypical frat image," Scott said. "We emphasize on values, gentlemanly conduct, person development, reaching for high academics, while taking an active stance against hazing and alcohol abuse."
Acceptance of students to this society depends on a student's academic skills as well as character and involvement in the community.
"We see SFA as an ability to build a very strong group on campus," Scott said. "We are looking for gentlemen with high GPA and community involvement."
Students hoping to for acceptance into the society should are expected to have a GPA of at least 2.8, but preferably over 3.2, involvement in other student organization and involvement in the community as well as at SFA.
Theta Chi also holds a prominent alumni program which helps strengthen the undergraduate chapters; some members include Steven Spielberg; Lee Iacocca, former Chairman and CEO of Chrysler and Charles Addams, creator of the Addams Family.
