Car Bash

Students bash car to relieve stress and support Driving Jacks.

“Support the Driving Jacks and hit the car! One hit for 50 cents! Three hits for a dollar! You know you wanna hit this car,” Driving Jacks and Tau Kappa Epilson (TKE) members yelled at fellow students as they walked past the beat up dark gray Cadillac.

Standing on top of the car, Christian Semmler, freshman psychology major and TKE member, lifted the hefty sledgehammer high over his head and slammed it down on the hard-top car, already dented and completely totaled.

The Driving Jacks and TKE hosted their annual car bash fundraiser on the yard between the business and science buildings yesterday to raise money for their organization.

Students paid 50 cents for one hit with the hammer and got three hits for a dollar in order to relieve stress on whatever is unnerving them.

All proceeds will be used for providing free safe and non-judgmental rides to SFA students and the Nacogdoches community by “providing gas for the rental cars, the cost of renting the cars and monthly bills.”

“Since we are run entirely off of donations and sponsors, the car bash is a way to get funding and get our name out there so that students know we are here,” Nancy Vargas, sponsor relations director, said.

Since starting with the organization three semesters ago, Vargas has helped every semester with the fundraiser in order to raise funds and try and get students who don’t know who they are to understand the organization.

“Call us if you ever need a ride,” Vargas persisted.

In an effort to “keep the community safe” the Driving Jacks are currently working on plans for their annual 5K run on April 20 that will raise money for endowment that is used in order to keep the organization running, Vargas said.
