SFA alumna Miranda Bradley transcended from aspiring hopeful to published author. In her debut book Blessed are the Jesus Chicks, Bradley offers her words of encouragement to all working mothers whether they be full time, part time, single, widowed, divorced or happily married.
Her book intends to inspire women and empower them with a message that it's not sinful, or sacrilegious to be a working mother. Bradley, 31, mother of two, and wife of six years, spreads the gospel and encourage others from her own personal experience. She said that after she became a mother in 2004, her faith, work and new position as matron concerned her. She read and researched ways to balance the three tasks in a harmonious and spiritual fashion but didn't find the solution she needed. Like most innovators, and with her faith, she was inspired to create answers and now shares them with the world.
"I would say that it's more like I didn't find any encouragement among Christian literature for the working mom," she said. "Most of what I found seemed to want to force all women into the 'stay at home mom' mold. Not that I don't fully respect stay at home moms, but we can't all have the opportunity to follow that path."
She said in the Bible, dating back to even the Old Testament, there were working moms in all positions, from judges to deacons in the church. Part of her message is, "Not only does God support you, he anoints and supports you." Her main goal is just to help working mothers find a balance that will stabilize home, faith and work.
Bradley graduated from SFA in 2000 and achieved a goal in under 10 years that most don't ever reach. She transfered to SFA from Louisiana Tech.
"Many people try to dog SFA because it's not UT or A&M, but the journalism program was top notch to me, and had a very huge impact on my career," she said. "The whole experience was eye opening." She said Dr. Gary Mayer, journalism professor, was very encouraging. "He's a very understanding man, open-minded and a good listener."
