Major Mai Lee Eskelund hands a participant a trophy for completing the Lieutenant Kile G. West Memorial 1K run. First Lieutenant Kile G. West graduated from SFA in December 2005 and received a commission as a Field Artillery officer. West made the ultimate sacrifice on May 28, 2007, in Abu Sayda, Iraq, when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. He and his men were on the way to rescue a downed U.S. air crew. His heroic actions and sacrifice earned him an Army Bronze Star for valor as well as the Purple Heart.
