In a Board of Regents meeting on April 18, it was revealed that SFA will be replacing Aramark’s dining service with a new company.

“The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents (BOR) provided approval for the SFA administration to engage in contract negotiations with Chartwells Higher Education. The BOR further authorized the administration to engage in negotiations with Sodexo if negotiations with Chartwells Higher Education are not successful. The administration is currently in negotiation with Chartwells to finalize the new dining management contract,” Dr. Brandon Frye, vice president of Student Affairs said.

According to the PowerPoint shared at the meeting, Envision Strategies was selected to conduct a food service study in the dining halls. The company toured and inspected all dining facilities on campus, observed meal service, interviewed major stake holders and conducted independent satisfaction surveys.

Thefound the current average meal plan participation rate is only 35.7%, and most of the food is made with lower quality ingredients that lack flavor.

Zachary Hill, a junior HR Management major, said “I think Aramark being replaced is a great opportunity for SFA and its students. People have always been critical of the food in the dining halls, and this also shows that SFA is willing to listen to its students. Overall, it’s a win for everyone.”

The current contract with Aramark is set to expire in August of this year, and the company chosen to take over will do so in the fall.

Students can expect to see a change in the dining services when they return for the 2021-2022 year.

Aramark vending machines will randomly charge $4 instead of the price of the item when using a card. Good riddance
