One of the most important times of the year for students is approaching. Stephen F. Austin State University will be holding commencement ceremonies May 6 and May 7. Although many seniors are preparing for graduation, there are many ways to make that special day unique.

Decorating your graduate cap is an outlet that allows students to express themselves and display their creativity during the ceremony. There are several small businesses local to Nacogdoches, such as Just Jul’s, Lux Artistry by Karrington and Radiantly Designed.

All the previously listed shops are owned by SFA students.

Julie Horchler, a junior elementary education major from Whitehouse, is known for her business “Just Jul’s”; where she sells outfits, hair pieces and decorates graduate caps. You can find her business via Facebook and Instagram.

“[The deadline for custom graduation cap orders would be] this Friday at the latest, depending on the design and level of detail,” Horchler said.

Graphic design major Karrington Carrier, a senior from Houston, has a business, “luxartistrybykarrington.” She designs art pieces and graduate caps. Carrier has produced work for SFA students in the past and has been acknowledged by many for her talents.

“I still will be doing graduate caps, [even after graduating,]” Carrier said.

According to Carrier’s business Instagram, graduation caps take at least 2 weeks but when I have multiple caps at a time 3 weeks.”

Junior Amanda Ward, an elementary education major with a photography minor from Trophy Club, has a small business “radiantlydesigned where Ward designs graduate caps, as well as creating wallpapers for desktops and phones. This business offers a variety of designs in addition to custom orders. Ward plans to continue to provide custom work to students as she pursues her degree.

Her last day to have a customized cap ready for May 6 and 7 commencement was April 27.
