Sony has officially announced exclusive downloadable content (DLC) for the video game “Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.”

The exclusive DLC will contain 30 VR (virtual reality) missions. These missions take note from the VR missions first seen in “Metal Gear Solid” on the Playstation 1

In “Metal Gear Solid,” progressing through the game needed to be approached in a stealthy manner to prevent capture or possible death from enemies. VR missions were not only a way to increase the stealth skills of players, but it additionally offered specific challenges such as sneaking past guards before the timer runs out. The VR missions were popular enough for Konami, video game developer behind “Metal Gear Solid,” to release a separate game comprised of over 300 of these stages titled “Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions.”

In “Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance,” players will undergo similar circumstances from “Metal Gear Solid’s” VR missions, but with more variety by promoting combat, stealth and tactics.

The design of the missions will reflect the beginning of the “Revengeance,” where players have the option to go through a tutorial on the game’s basics of combat. The demo can be downloaded on Xbox Live or the Playstation Network.

In addition to playing as the game’s protagonist, Raiden, there will be an additional option to take control of a Dward Gekko, one of the many enemies in the Metal Gear universe.

How much the DLC will cost, the date of its release and when it will upload to the Playstation store is unclear at the moment.

In regards to if the DLC will make its way to other platforms, Konami Social Media Manager Dalton Link said “The DLC will be available for PS3 users in North America, Latin America, Europe and Japan. The PS3 exclusivity is only for North America,” Link said.

Though Playstation 3 owners in North America will be the only ones to receive the DLC, it seems the extra missions could be made available to Xbox 360 and PC to other countries.

“Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance” hits store shelves Feb. 19.
