The Ladyjack basketball team continued its winning ways with a 69-39 win over the Lamar Lady Cardinals in the first game of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA now has a 14-2 record and an unblemished 6-0 record in league play. The Lady Cardinals fall to 3-9 overall and a 2-2 record in Southland play.
The Ladyjacks’ 30-point victory over Lamar was their closest margin in Southland play, and they extended their win streak to nine games.
Freshman forward Avery Brittingham was named player of the game after coming off the bench and recording a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds while also adding three assists. She was followed in scoring by junior guard Stephanie Visscher with 13 points and senior guard Marissa Banfield and sophomore guard Zya Nugent with 9 points each.
Lamar was led in scoring by junior guard Anyssia Gibbs with 12 points, four rebounds and one assist.
The Ladyjacks forced Lamar to 13 turnovers and recorded five steals and four blocks. SFA leads the nation in steals with 218.
The Ladyjacks will return to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for a road matchup with Southland opponent Abilene Christian University. The game can be viewed on ESPN+.
