After having last week off, the Ladyjacks volleyball team travels to Mobile, Alabama for two matches with the South Alabama Jaguars at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday in Jaguar Gym.
The 'Jacks hold a 5-1 record on the season. In their previous match, SFA defeated the Houston Baptist University Huskies in five sets (25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 15-9). It culminated a weekend in which the Jacks completed a 4-0 sweep in games with Lamar, UL-Monroe and HBU. In the match against the Huskies, sophomore outside hitter Ariana Pagan recorded a double-double by tallying 11 kills and 20 digs. Sophomore right side hitter Payton Cerny had 21 kills, hitting .326, three blocks and one dig. As a unit, the Jacks had four and five players record double-digits in kills and digs.
Saturday's matches will serve as South Alabama’s home opener. The Jaguars began the 2020 season on the road going 0-2 in a series with Louisiana-Lafayette (0-3 in both sets). Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Maddux totaled 18 kills, 13 digs and two blocks on the day. Senior outside hitter Meaghan Jones and freshman middle blocker Rebecca Walk also recorded 13 and 11 kills. Junior libero Rachel Hickey led the Jaguars with 39 digs.
