Organizations from both SFA and Sam Houston State University competed in the 88th Battle of the Piney Woods Paint Houston Purple and Paint Houston Orange contests.

The contest challenged organizations to bring as many students as possible to Saturday’s game at Reliant Stadium.

SFA’s Purple Haze Association swept the competition. An official number has not been released, but at least 50 SFA students purchased and registered for the PHA seats on the contest website.

“It’s an exciting accomplishment for us,” Purple Haze President Carla Oliver said. “It shows that all of our hard work and dedication has paid off.”

Official contest rules state that every student who attends the game will enter their name, email, address, seat number, school and organization to verify who is bringing the most people to Houston.

Winning has its perks.

PHA was awarded an official 2013 Paint Houston Purple trophy, 140 official Paint Houston Purple champion t-shirts and a catered 20 x 20 tailgate setup in the Reliant Stadium Parking Lot.

“We just counted on our members to pull through like they have all year,” Oliver said. “They showed that supporting the Jacks is what they’re all about.”
