Ladyjacks soccer finishes SLC season to place for conference tournament

The SFA soccer team is close to finishing its Southland Conference season with three games left. The next two games are against Abilene Christian University at 7 p.m. on Friday in Abilene and against University of the Incarnate Word at 1 p.m. on Sunday in San Antonio.

The Ladyjacks hold a 6-9 overall record, a 3-5 conference record and a .400 winning percentage. SFA is ranked eighth in the conference. The Ladyjacks won 6-0 against Nicholls State University on Friday. The Ladyjacks had 20 attempted shots with nine shots on goal while Nicholls had five attempted shots with three shots on goal.

On Sunday, SFA fell to Southeastern Louisiana University 2-1. SLU had 14 attempted shots with five shots on goal while SFA had 17 attempted shots and six shots on goal. Lion freshman goalkeeper Sophie Wendt had five saves in the game.

SFA averages 1.73 goals per game and allow opponents 1.47 goals per game. The Ladyjacks average 13.5 shots per game with a shots on goal percentage of .340. Junior midfielder Katelyn Termini continues to lead the offense with seven goals and three assists with a shots on goal percentage of .280. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Allyson Halliday has played 14 games and started 11 of those games out of 15 this season. She has made 54 saves with a high of 14 saves against the University of Houston.

The ACU Wildcats have a 9-4-2 overall record, a 5-2-1 conference record, a .667 winning percentage and are ranked third in the SLC. They are coming off a 6-4 loss against Lamar University on Friday and a 3-0 win against McNeese State on Sunday.

The Wildcats average 2.6 goals per game and allow opponents an average of 1.53 goals per game. They take an average of 19.7 shots per game with a .132 shot percentage and shots on goal percentage of .497. Junior forward Christina Arteaga leads the team with 10 goals and four assists with a shots on goal percentage of .515.

Freshman midfielder Natalie Jones also contributes to ACU’s offense with seven goals, six assists and a shots on goal percentage of .529. On defense, junior goalkeeper Erin Smith has saved 24 shots with a high of seven saves against Texas Tech University. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Rachel Johnson has saved 38 shots with a high of six saves against Houston Baptist University and Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi.

University of the Incarnate Word holds a 6-2 conference record, 7-8 overall record, a .467 winning percentage and ranked second in the SLC. They will play SFA for their senior day. UIW comes off a 2-0 win against McNeese State and a 2-3 loss against Lamar University.

The Cardinals average 1.33 goals per game and allow opponents 1.27 shots per game. With a 14 shots per game average, UIW has a shots on goal percentage of .471. Sophomore forward Keeley Ayala leads the team with 11 goals with season, one assist and a shot on goal percentage of .510.

Senior forward Brooke Hanson helps on offense having contributed with five goals and seven assists with a shots on goal percentage of .533. Junior goalkeeper Cailey Croson has played 14 out of 15 games this season and has saved 58 shots with a high of 10 saves against the University of North Texas.

The Ladyjacks will play their final game against rival Sam Houston State University at 6:30 p.m. on Nov.1 in Huntsville.
