SFA to play UNO, ACU after two wins on the road

 The Ladyjacks continue their Southland Conference run this week against the University of New Orleans at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They return home to play Abilene Christian University at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

After two games last week, winning both 3-0 without losing a set against Lamar University and McNeese State, the Ladyjacks maintain their undefeated conference the No.1 rank in the conference with a 4-0 record, a 16-1 overall record, a .941 winning percentage and a nine-game winning streak.

Senior outside hitter Corin Evans continues to dominate on offense with 14 kills against Lamar. Evans also had 10 digs on defense against Lamar. Evans had 11 kills, 13 digs and two blocks against McNeese, acquiring her seventh double-double of the season. She had an attacking percentage of .324 against Lamar and .346 against McNeese.

SFA had a hitting percentage of .327 against McNeese, allowing them to have a .082 hitting percentage. This season, the volleyball team has held a .251 attacking percentage with 12.8 kills per set, allowing opponents a .145 attacking percentage and 12.6 kills per set. On defense, the Ladyjacks average 17.4 digs per set while opponents have combined for 17.6 digs per set.

Wednesday’s game against the Privateers will be in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the Human Performance Center. UNO ranks No.7 in the SLC with an overall record of 9-9, a 2-2 conference record, a .500 winning percentage and a two-game losing streak.

UNO has an attacking percentage of .208 while averaging 13.1 digs per set. The team also allows opponents a .198 attacking percentage, averaging 11.5 digs per set. On defense, the Privateers average 14.6 digs per set while opponents also average 14.6 digs per set.

The Privateers offense’s main attacker is outside hitter Brianna Vega who has totaled 221 kills this season averaging 3.35 kills per set, three double-doubles and a high of 22 kills against North Dakota State. Following in kills, opposite position Ehize Omoghibo has a total of 177 kills, and middle blocker/outside hitter Rhyan Rand totals 124 kills.

Senior defensive setter and libero Andrea Nava leads the UNO defense with 279 digs averaging 4.23 digs per set. Also, contributing on defense is freshman setter/opposite position Lucie Pokorna who has a season total of 164 digs. With Pokorna, Vega follows with 146 digs. Freshman middle blocker Sh’diamond Holly leads the team in blocks with 59 blocks.

The matchup with ACU on Saturday will take place in Shelton Gym and will also be televised on ESPN3. The Wildcats rank No.8 while holding a 4-10 overall record, a 2-2 conference record, a .286 winning percentage and a two-game losing streak.

ACU has a .175 an attacking percentage averaging 11.3 kills per set while allowing opponents a .249 attacking percentage and 14.7 kills per set. On defense, the Wildcats average 13.9 digs per set while opponents average 16.7 digs per set.

Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Toney has a total of 123 kills this season, averaging 2.73 kills per set. Freshman libero Mackenzie Harris has 183 digs this season, averaging 4.46 digs per set. Senior outside hitter Eighmy Dobbins has also contributed on defense with 106 digs, averaging 2.36 digs per set.

Following this week’s games, the Ladyjacks will face Nicholls State University at 6:30 p.m. on Oct.17 in Shelton Gym.
