SFA baseball and softball return to Nacogdoches this week as the Lumberjacks take on Prairie View A&M University, and the Ladyjacks battle the University of Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday. Both teams will play Northwestern State in a three-game series on Friday- Sunday.

Lumberjacks

The Lumberjacks will play at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Jaycees Field. SFA maintains an overall record of 18-22, an 11-7 conference record and a .450 winning percentage. They won their last series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 2-1. PVAMU has a 16-26 overall record, an 8-9 conference record and a .381 winning percentage.

SFA baseball is ranked No.5 in the SLC but still has four conference series to move up before the conference tournament. In their last meetup, the Lumberjacks defeated the Panthers 8-5 by making a comeback in the sixth inning with four runs.

The Panthers’ Alex Martinez holds a batting average of .327, has had 10 home runs this season and 50 RBIs. Martinez also has a .893 fielding percentage. Daniel Lingua has been a lead player with a .395 batting average, one home run and 37 RBIs as well as a .935 fielding percentage. Kyle Smith has pitched 62.1 innings for PVAMU and holds an ERA of 5.49, a 1.71 WHIP and has had 39 strikeouts this season. Right behind him is Tyler Laux, who has pitched 50.2 innings. Laux has a 5.86 ERA, a 1.87 WHIP and 38 strikeouts.

The three-game series begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday against Northwestern State, and will continue at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. NSU has a 23-15 overall record, a 12-9 conference record and a .605 winning percentage. They are ranked No. 6 in the SLC.

Caleb Ricca has a batting average of .303, and has contributed five home runs and 25 RBIs this season. With 54 innings pitched, Nathan Jones has a 2.50 ERA, .96 WHIP and 54 strikeouts. Ridge Heisler has pitched 67.1 innings for NSU with a 3.07 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP and 49 strikeouts.

Ladyjacks

SFA softball will play another away game before returning to Nacogdoches at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Geo-Surfaces Field. The Ladyjacks are ranked No. 4 in the SLC with a 29-17 overall record, 14-7 conference record and a .630 winning percentage. Softball is a few weeks away from their conference tournament in May.

SFA is coming off a series win against Abilene Christian, winning 2-of-3 in Abilene. The Ladyjacks captured the first game, 2-1, and the second game, 10-3. In the final game of the series, the Jacks lost, 6-5, in nine innings.

ULM has a 9-36 overall record, 5-15 conference record and a .200 winning percentage. Jayden Mount leads the team with five home runs. She has a .313 batting average, 25 RBI and a .939 fielding percentage. Sydney McKay contributes at bat with a .400 batting average, one home run this season and 22 RBI. Adrianna Chavarria has pitched 94.2 innings and has a 4.95 ERA, a 1.87 WHIP and 40 strikeouts.

In the three-game series against NSU, the Ladyjacks will play in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday, and will close out the series at noon on Saturday. NSU is ranked No.6 in the SLC.

They have a 23-21 overall record, a 13-8 conference record and a .523 winning percentage. The Ladyjacks have been able to win their last two series against the University of the Incarnate Word 3-0 and 2-1 against Abilene Christian University.

Cayla Jones leads the NSU offense with a .316 batting average, seven home runs and 28 RBIs. Riley Cantrell has 30 RBIs and Alexis Perry has 24 for the Devils. On the mound, Samantha Guile has 96.2 innings pitched with a 2.68 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP and 65 strikeouts.

The Ladyjacks will finish out their conference season against rivals Sam Houston State University on May 3-4 in Nacogdoches. The Lumberjacks will return to the road to play the University of Arkansas- Pine Bluff on Tuesday, and McNeese in a three- game series on May 3-5.
