Ladyjacks soccer heads east this weekend for a contest with the University of Louisiana-Lafayette set for 1 p.m. Sunday at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex.
The Jacks sit at 1-0-1 on the season. They began the 2020 campaign last Friday in San Marcos with a 2-1 win in double overtime over Texas State, which was also Tony Minatta’s first win as the Ladyjacks’ head coach. In their home opener last Sunday, SFA played to double overtime once more and tied 1-1 with Southland opponent Abilene Christian.
This will be the third all-time meeting between the Jacks and Ragin’ Cajuns. They last played each other during the 2009 and 2010 seasons in which SFA won 3-1 each time.
Louisiana-Lafayette plays in the Sun Belt Conference and enters the game with a 2-0 record for the first time since 2012. They opened their season with a 2-0 win over Abilene Christian and over South Alabama 2-1 in double overtime. Junior forward Lizzie Mayfield and junior goalkeeper Jordan Higgins received the Sun Belt’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week honors for their performances in both games. Mayfield scored two goals, two assists and Higgins recorded 11 saves.
Senior defender Julianne Deblieux and freshman midfielder Alyssa Abbott have each recorded one goal, and junior forward Skyla Sykes has one assist.
The game will be live streamed on ESPN+.
