Bettie Mae Fikes, keynote speaker for the Office of Multicultural Affairs’ MLK Celebration, speaks at the lectern. Fikes was raised in Selma, Alabama, and was known as “the voice of Selma.” According to Snncdigital.org, Fikes was a leader for the fight for equality in the ’60s.
Iman Andrews performs a praise dance. Praise dance or liturgical dance is a form of dance used during worship. In the Christian Bible, King David danced before the Lord and David was “girded with a linen ephod” similar to the cloth tied around Andrew’s waist.
